Hey all,

Just curious id the new "quad" code amds will be a whole new chipset of it I will be able to run it on my new am2 motherboard, I was planning on buying a new cpu in a week or so but maybe I will wait a little more if they will run in my motherboard....

THANKS!

(there all the typos fixed) :D

We don't know for certain, but I am willing to bet that the quad-core AMD chip that was just taped out will fit and run in an AM2-socket board and the chipsets that can run a single- or dual-core AM2 will run a quad. The socket 939 X2s ran fine on a dual-channel DDR 400 (6.4 GB/sec) and the DDR2 AM2s have twice the bandwidth (12.8 GB/sec) so the quads should be able to run perfectly.

But if you are wondering whether a specific *board* will be able to support a quad-core CPU...depends on if the vendor will ship a BIOS for it. Most vendors should, especially if your board is a popular, enthusiast-targeted model.
