slow network on new build

Having a weird problem with a slow network.

New system just put together:

Asus P5B P965 1066FSB LGA775 DDR2 motherboard
Intel E6400 core 2 duo
Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB Kit DDR2-800 XMS2-6400
BFG 7950gx2
SoundBlaster Audigy2 ZS
Antec NEO480 480w power supply
WinXP Media Center

I have updated the bios to latest from Asus site. I have also updated latest ethernet drivers:
Realtek RTL8111b 10/100/1000M LAN Driver Version 5.652.627.2006

For some reason my network connection is very slow on download. I have run test's on Broadbrand reports and confirmed that I am only able to download at speeds of 60kbs or so.

I have verified that my intenet connection is fine, as I have a secondary computer that test's at normal cable modem downlaod speeds of around 1.3MB's pers second.

Any suggestions?

Did you install the NIC driver that came on your motherboard CD or did windows install one for you? That might be your problem.

If you did, go to your local bigbox store and buy a $10 PCI NIC card and see if that fixes your problem. If it does, your onboard NIC is faulty.

I ended up getting a USB to ethernet 10/100 device for 12 bucks since I did not have any regular card slots left in my machine(just the mini PCI express slots left).

Plugged it in and it running at full normal cable modem speed almost 5MB download. awesome! thanks!
