Hey everyone, this is my first post. glad to be here.

I was wondering about the different Core2 chipsets. from what i gather intel released a new chipset(965)specificaly for Conroe. However, from some of the info i have gathered the 965 offers poor performence compared to an older chipset(975x)which seems to be a better choice. I hear "the best" 975x is the Asus with the wifi that will set you back $270. Has anyone heard anything about the 965? have they "matured" at all as of yet? Thanks in advance.

In spite of Intel's claim that the 965 has an improved memory controller, the 975 performs better. The benchmarks show this. Check Anandtech for a substantial number of memory benchmarks done using both chipsets and various memory modules. Look for their "Conroe buyers guide" article.

HTH.

Yes, i have read the article. which is why i was wondering if there might have been some revisions to the 965 since the article was written.

Abit just released their flagship line of 975x chipset boards - the AW9D and the AW9D-MAX - which, I feel, is going to be the best 975x chipset boards. They are designed for overclocking and are quad core ready.

I haven't seen a word anywhere about a 965 revision yet. I doubt there is one. The DFI infinity board is based on the 975, it sells in the range of $190 but has a hard overclocking limit of about 360Mhz. It is the least expensive 975 based board I know of (still, double check, someone may have introduced something cheaper while I wasn't looking  )

i think neither nvidia 570 nor nvidia 590SLI will be faster than 975X and 965, i think ASUS PW-DH-DELUXE is the best board but im not sure about buying this one or a Gigabyte 965 for native Conroe suport... and get a bit cheaper board than the WONDERFUL ASUS PW-DH-DELUXE, maybe 965 makes better work with BIOS updates and gets better with the time like wine xDD

Thanks for the info guys. so 590 should really just be around the corner eh? well hrm, SLI still needs the identical cards doesnt it? reason enough for me to get a crossfire board.
