Blank Screen at Startup

please could you help me my 9 year old grandoughter laptop was working fine turned it of over night put it back on this morning blank skreen came up tryed to start a couple of times same thing please help thank you

What color is the blank screen? Is the monitor actually on but just displaying a solid color screen or is the monitor not on at all?
