Ok, after some help here a few days back, some cyber soul-searching, and an arseload more review reading, here is what I've got penciled in to a NewEgg order:

1 Lian Li V COOL PC-V1000APLUS Silver Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
$209.99

1 Thermaltake Purepower W0083RU ATX12V/ EPS12V 600W Power Supply - Retail
$114.99

1 ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
$249.99

1 Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 1066MHz FSB LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6700 - Retail
$599.99

1 CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400 - Retail
$229.00

1 XFX PV-T71G-UCE7 Geforce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail
$299.00

1 Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
$77.99

1 LITE-ON 16X DVD?R DVD Burner W/LightScribe and 5X DVD-RAM Write Black ATAPI/E-IDE Model SHM-165H6S - Retail
$37.99

Subtotal: $1,818.94

Does anyone see any obvious incompatibilities or oversights? I've done enough maintinence to PCs over the years (Adding parts, replacing, etc) that I'm confident I *can* build this system, I've just never actually done the whole tamale in one go before so I'd like some more experienced people to give me their opinions.

One question I have is, where do cables traditionaly come from? Will these parts have enough cables included that I can build the system, or should I pick up some extra cables in my order? I may anyways to get rounded cables, but I thought I'd throw the question out there...

Few suggestions:

1) Don't buy an E6700. Buy the E6600 save $230 and simply overclock it. The small performance difference between (only 266MHz basically under 3%) the 6600 and 6700 does not justify the huge jump in price.

2) I would considering getting a 7600GT video card now, and spending money on your video card when Vista and DX10 cards are available. No current card can take full advantage of Vista.

Only 2 things I can see.

If your only getting 1 video card, then a SLi board is pointless, otherwise im agreeing along with the other posters said.

Waiting for Vista/DX10 is your choice, if you are willing to suck it up for sucky graphics for 3+ months before reliable cards come out for DX10 then deck out 300-400 for a good card is your own choice. If you want to spend a little bit now, getting a 7900GT, 1900GT, or a 1800XT are all very nice cards around $300.

I personally did not wait for Vista/DX10 so i vote buy a good card now and think about a new card later 8) .

I also agree with getting a 6600, 6700 just does not justify the price hike.

Two points: One, this way I have another upgrade potential farther down the road (Theoreticly), and, two, the board is (from what I've read in reviews) a high quality board SLI or not.

The money spent though on SLi unity, doesnt show a big difference. Your paying for example: a 7900GT valued at 260 bucks lets say. To increase performance of only what 30%, you gotta go buy another and spend Another 260 bucks? I find it ridiclious right now. I have 2 cards paired in SLi, man i wish i could taken back my card to the store :(
