So I decided that my C2D Alienware M5750 was an overpriced piece of shi*t and decided to sell it to some unsuspecting n00b on eBay. I fetched $2000 for it. After looking long and hard for the most powerful ultra portable, I settled on the MacBook. It's the thinest, lightest, and most attractive C2D lappy on the market. And... Apple allows you to dual boot WinXP. It cost me a mere $1249. (2.0Ghz C2D, 1GB RAM, 80GB hdd, etc) I already dual booted XP on it and it works fantastically. Apple even makes a WinXP driver disc from within OSX. The drivers loaded without a single hitch. Every device (including bluetooth) works!
I am so happy with this laptop that I may never own another PC again. I'm even considering selling my homebuilt PC and buying a MacPro.
Before all you Apple bashers start, consider this:
I have never owned or (hardly) used a Mac in my life.
So if anyone is in the market for a new lappy, I suggest you take a look at what apple has to offer. You no longer have an excuse since WinXP works on it.
Yeah, I'm more impressed by the hardware than I am the software. OSX is pretty nice, but it's a little more clumsier than WinXP/Vista.
However... after playing with OSX for a couple weeks now, it's pretty evident that M$ looked to OSX for ideas on Vista. There are blatant rip offs... it's pathetic.
Still, Vista (I think) is the best OS right now. That might change with OSX Pather though...
I've been dual-booting XP and Vista now for two weeks. No further comment other than I prefer XP (so far). I'm just giving Vista another 6 months and waiting for the service packs before I give my final critique.
My one cousin - actually, her entire family - have all gone the Mac route instead of the IBM PC clone route. I think on average they pick up less crap with their hardware than me and mine do with our hardware.
Where it comes to software, the McIntyres are roughly 50/50 split between XP/Vista and OSX lately.
Personally, though, I'll stick to my PC. It works, does what I want it to do, and generally takes the sledgehammer leaning against the case very seriously.

:? They should use that line on infomercials.

You mean that's not an excuse?
I kid. I'll eventually pick up a Mac. Then I'll have all three (Windows, Linux, and Mac OS) living in a computing utopia, filled with peace, harmony, and a wild assortment of BSODs. *shakes head in despair*
I've never actually seen a Mac crash. I've seen one just before and just after, but never during. It just... yeah, does nothing.
I personally enjoy the random reboots of XP, Vista and OSX... I've seen a MAC crash....As i threw it out a 3 story window and it hit the parking lot below. Long story great video. But Marketing never asked me to fix their MAC's again.
I've nothing serious either.. except that time the guy in Vegas accidently tossed his laptop out the cab window at 30mph. Gold support? They'll over night you a brand new laptop, no questions asked.
When Dell bought Alienware, they didn't change anything to it. Alienware is still the same company and doing business as usual, except now Dell owns.
The same guy who ran Alienware is still doing it last I heard. He was staying on and had issued a statement when the annoucement first came out saying not to worry, nothing is going to change with their products.
That's true. If Dell planned on screwing with Alienware too much they wouldn't be competing with them with the XPS line. I think they wanted to compete with them as separate companies but knew people that were going to spend $3-4k on a pre-built gaming computer were probably more likely to buy Alienware. Why not just buy the company and benefit from the XPS and Aurora, etc lines? Makes sense to me and I'm glad they aren't messing with the company at all.
US Supreme Court says the EPA has to watch Greenhouse gases from vehicles.
Not quite... The court said EPA's excuse for not regulating greenhouse gases is invalid. They specifically avoided ruling that the EPA must regulate them. Wait a month for the next excuse and lather, rinse, repeat again.
It'll happen.. its still a big blow and that'll hurt the American auto industry big time. They're going to have to start looking ahead 2-3 years to see what the law will be like then to design their vehicles to be ready by then.
