Hi,

We have a small server on our network and it runs our wins and DNS services.

We are currently having a issue where tracert reports back the wrong IP of
the server.

For instance the server has a static IP of 192.168.0.126

however sometimes when doing a tracert it reports as 192.168.0.145

why would this happen?

any suggestions that you can give would be of great assitance as it is
driving me up the wall.

regards

Darren

check the registration of the server in DNS and WINS and see if those
are correct.

Does the server have more than 1 IP?

Cheers,

Actually i just checked the WINS and there is a entry for

Record name Type IP Address
--_MSBROWSE_- [01h]Other 192.168.0.126

Our server is 192.168.0.126

why would tracert find this other IP?

In news:OxCE0dQfFHA.2496@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl,
Darren Clark <darren@webling.com.au> made this post, which I then commented
about below:

No, that entry is the MS Browser service registering itself as the Browse
Master. Tracert would use DNS. In DNS is there another entry for the
machine? As Jorge asked, is the machine multihomed?
