DNS on DC! Urgent!

Hi,

My office has two new XP machine, 5 win98 based machine and 1 W2K Domain
Controller (DC) form a simple network. I found that both of two XP logon DC
are very slow so that I set both XP machine DNS IP address point to DC and
setup DC's DNS. The problem was fixed but the two XP clients can't browsing
internet via IE. I tried to set primary DNS is point to DC and secondary DNS
point to ISP's DNS. The problem is still there. Why? It seems can't lookup a
secondary DNS. Any setting required in DC's DNS? I found "." under DNS
forward folder. Is "." cause internet access failture?

Yes, delete this zone and remove the ISP's DNS from TCP/IP properties.

Have any other solutions without delete the root server? If deleted, is it
possible to re-create again.

You need to delete the root zone or your AD DNS will not work right.

There is no compelling reason for the root zone to exist other than if you
are using an ISA server or a Proxy server protected infrastructure and using
its web caching feature. The root zone was created because you promoted your
first DC while not connected to the Internet.

As Kevin and Lanwench indicated you don't need it. You can read that link
Lanwench provided to better understand what the Root zone does and why it's
not needed.
