I have been reading for days and cannot come to a conclusion. Everyother board I check out there are arguments about if DX10 cards are going to be worth gettin in the early quarter or not, so please give me some input and tell me what you guys think.

I am building a new system, components are listed below. And am not sure if I should just go ahead and spend money on 7950 GX2 or just stick to 7900gt or even ATI X1900XTX.

Case: Lian Li PC-V2100B-PLUS

This year seems to be one big waiting game. After waiting for Intels core duo people are now waiting for nvidia's 590 chipset.

When this arrives people will wait for dx10 cards. Next is AMD's K8 then Intel's 4 core. Vista is then out in Q1 or 2 2007.

You have to bite the bullet sometime.

On video cards I believe EVGA do a rebate system if you buy one of theirs then upgrade later. You only pay the difference.

I have not looked into this in any depth though.

You are right and this whole waiting game is driving me crazy!!!

I have heard or read something like that abut eVGA, I will try to find further info on that.

If anyone else has any input on that or has experience doing that with eVGA please post and help me make a decision.

In my opinion I'm going to make the decision when you buy.
I'd suggest now getting a 7600 or something which is fairly cheap.
Then when DX10/vista comes out you can get one.
I'm waiting until Feb to buy though so my decision will be made then.
If I bought today I'd just get a bargain video card (one that would still be pretty good tho)
Then get a DX 10 one in a year or whenever.
If you upgrade everyear anyway.
I'd say get a 7900GT not GTX then in a year you can get a DX10.
I don't think we're going to see DX10 used much for another year even if vista/DX10 cards are released Q1/Q2.
However it is all speculation for now.
I wouldn't trust the release dates.

I was going to wait but I figure to see how the first batch of dx10 cards are. I got a x1900xtx which should last me a good while and later on after im finished paying for my wedding lol, I'll upgrade.

I am gonna be running my games on high settings at 1920x1080 (37" Westy W3)
I have a 7600gt XXX(factory overclocked) and this card cannot really cut it at a high resolution. So thats why I think I am probably going to end up buying the 1950 or 7950.

DX10 are going to be fully machure and in the flow for atleast a year so yah I dont think I can wait that long.

Never buy any technology, ever. There will always be something better coming "right around the corner".

Laff.

Or buy what you want, when you want it. Sell it when you get bored and buy some new stuff.

"Life is too short to spend waiting for DX10."

Yeah if you intend to run at that kind of resolution upgrade now, don't forget that doubtless the first wave of DX10 graphics cards will quickly be superseded by newer ones, so the earlier ones will come down in price/you can buy an even better card by the time lots of stuff needs DX10 there will probably be a whole range of cards...

I'm having the same issue. I should be building a machine in the next couple of months and I was leaning towards a 7900GT but now I'm thinking it would be better to get a 7600GT and save 100 bucks towards a DX10 card.
