I have looked around for reviews and just havent seen
the 1800xt compared to a 1900gt. They both cost around
the same when looking for deals around $200. Budget is around
$200
finally, thanks for the link. Im suprised that even though
1900gt has more of those pixel shaders and what not is not able
to outperform 1800xt.
1800xt it is.
Keep your eye out for falling prices. X1900XT 256MB and 512MB, as these are better than either of the ones you mentioned.
very interesting site. i noticed that the Powercolor X1900 GT was being compared to Asus Videocards. i wonder how the Powercolor would compare wtih Sapphire X1900 GT and X1800 XT? (any links would be appreciated)
things to take note: Asus cards are very much expensive than Powercolor or Sapphire Video Cards. (unless prices have change)
If they are clocked the same (as all X1800XT and X1900GT's are) then they will perform the same. It's not an Asus beating a powercolor, it's a reference clocked X1800XT 256MB beating a reference clocked X1900GT.
From what I've seen the 1900gt tends to perform better in 3DMark, but the 1800xt does better in games. Also, if power consumption/heat is anything of an issue the 1800xt is much more power hungry.
On a very low budget build I ALMOST did power consumption was the deciding factor between the two cards. I would have been forced to chose the gt over the xt because the extra 30W would have put me out of my PSU load comfort zone and would have required purchasing a new PSU (not in the budget).
Budget build? Yeah, you'd be suprised what you can do with less than $1k.
As for the heat issue on the X1900GT/X1800XT. I'd call them about same, if not give the hotter load to the GT. The R580 is a naturally warmer running card than the X1800XT, and being that the GT is simply a cut down R580, this tends to lead to that fact. Although it might be more even because of the reduced clock speeds on the GT side. However I'm once those are pushed things will change.
And whose this 'raven3x7' poser?? There's only one bird on these forumz bud...
When dealing with heat you might also point out that the X1800XT vents to the outside of the case where the X1900GT doesn't. The downside of course being that the X1800XT is a 2-slot design and the X1900GT is a 1-slot setup. Something to keep in mind when taking overall system heat into perspective.
Notice, while I take a jab here and there, I have never asked you (in a negative way) why you bought a X1900GT. Price difference up north seemed the obvious reason.
