i will be purchasing a dell 24inch widescreen this week or next. with my current setup, i can run all games at 1280*1024 at maximum quality except for bf2 my most played game. it lags even on 1024*768. i am aware this is a very demanding game but what will i need to get bf2 running at 1600x1200. this is my setup

athlon single core 3800+
Asus a8v-mx via motherboard
1 gig 400mhz corsair value
74 gig raptor
BFG 7800GS

if anyone know how to overclock my rig please let me know. i cannot install AI booster and nTune does not support the VIA chipset. my cpu cooling is 35 Celcius thanks to FReezer from artic cooling
thank you all

First of all in order to play BattleField 2 Fine ,you need 2Gb of memory ...
this will allow you to play the game much better...
then you need a better video card in order to play the game @ 1600x1200...
something like GeForce7900Series or ATI X1800XT & X1900Series
any thing else is right in your system...

i would get an extra gig of ram and then use coolbits to overclock your video card.if i remember correctly, the 7800gs is an agp card that is built with the 7900 gpu.therefore it has 24 pipelines and 16vertex shaders.as well as a 256 memory bus.use rivatuner to check out the specs on the card.anyways do that stuff and you should be good to go on most any game.

EXTREME 19IN.CRT MONITOR

I thought that the GS's were a normal 7800 on an AGP card, onlt gainward went to a 7800GT on an agp and then to a 7900GT with the 7800GS+ Bliss. So I doubt that the card can be unlocked.

2Gb of RAM will help a lot, I know it did for me...

What resolution do you want to play at? 16x12 is not a widescreen res, so you might be 1400x1050, or 19x12? if it is the latter you'll probably need SLI (and it'll be one the few cases where it is a need)

Before you get more RAM you might find out if anything non-sli will work at that res at decent fps, (anand have been doing some hi-res benchmarking(, as you might have to do a platform upgrade to hit SLI.

Thats funny...I've been playing BF2 with only a gig of ram since the game came out

Would 2 gigs be better?....sure, but but if your computer is up to it, 1 gig works great.

Strange I can play BF2 at 1280x1024 with no problems and I have a slower system than you. Do you have the setting on BF2 set too high? An extra gig of memory would help you. I have 2 gigs in mine and I do notice a difference. If you are going with that new wide screen monitor and are gonna blow that much cash then why not get a new system to compliment it. Kinda like putting thousand dollar chrome rims on a Hyundai.
