Hi all Im new to your forums. I just finished with a new rig.
Mobo-Intel 975 xbx
Core duo 6600
2 x1900 in crossfire
2 gigs ddr2 667 ram Geil
600 enermax ps
2, 74 gig raptors in raid 0
This thing will not run right. Error messages and lock ups all the time. Im fairly confidant its not the video cars or the hd's. Games will install and when I try to play them they will not load. Sometimes they do load and stutter terribly. The real probelm is the freagin error messages. "windows explorer must close, internet explorer must close, dr watson debugger must close,esent.dll,win32error, and too many to post. My computer wont run check disc(even tried in safe mode). Any help or suggestions would be great Im in over my head on this one. Oh windows update also crashes. Thanks.
You did a clean install of windows I assume. If this is brand new and Windows installed correctly the first time, it could be a memory problem. Try making an ISO of memtest86 and letting that run through a few times.
Make a note of the error codes on the error messages within Windows itself. You can either do it when they pop up or go through the event viewer (start -> programs -> administrative tools -> event viewer OR controls panel -> administrative tools -> event viewer) and look up the system events that have errors by them. Make sure all the drivers are correct and up to date, too. Make sure the Crossfire and RAID drivers are up to date and correct. It could be a number of things.
When does this happen, are you doing anything specific or does it just start up and go "I'm sorry, Windows hates you, try again later."
Honestly if it were my brand new system acting that way, I'd blow it away and reinstall everything since there isn't much on it anyway.
Post some of the error codes here. Hope I helped give you some direction.
Thanks for the suggestions. I ran the memory test and there were no errors during the test or on the event log(during the test). There are plenty of errors listed in the event log(over half of all events are errors). At first I installed on one hd only, same probs. Then I returned hd and decided to go with raid. Same with video cards at first I bought 2 crossfire ready cards(not crossfire edition card), so I exchanged for crossfire ed card. Then I did new install and have same probs as before(when I only had on hd and one video card. Some of the error messages,Generic host processfor win 32 services has prob, windows out of box...prob, game dat errors, too many to list really. Thanks again.

Cube gave you really good suggestions, I believe his last one is the one you should try now.
What I would add to his suggestion above is, do an install with a "bare" system. That is, install with only one video card and one hard drive, see if the system is stable that way. If it isn't, it will be easier to figure out the reason on the simpler setup. If it is stable, then you can proceed step by step to add the other pieces.
I would pay particular attention to the drivers installed (motherboard and video specially) and, I would test the hard drives to make sure that neither has any bad sectors.
I had the exact same problems that you are having. All the exact same error messages, and constant restarts and lockups, games not loading, when transfering data from 1 disk to another it would restart. Then reboot saying XP recoverded from a serious problem.
Opening files that I have had for years eg, nvidia drivers and old programs that I want to install, even 3dMark 01,03,05, windows would say this file is corrupt. Talk about piss me off. Nothing but S*#T for over a month! Also did the Memory test and it all passed.
I just got brand new parts eg, AMD64 3500 Venice, ASUS A8N-SLI SE, Corsair XMSpro 1GB, MSI 7900GT, and 3 HDD's. It took like 3 weeks to finally get Win XP Installed. Did this by lowering my mem from 400mHz to 266. Got it all activated through MS and then 1 day later the SMART montoring for my Primary HD came up with the death notice.
Hard Drive failure is iminante. Back up all your data ASAP.
So I am guessing that this was my problem all along, stupid hardrive failure.
Hope this doesn't happen to you also. But it might be something to keep a look out for,
Ok, I had an extra hard drive and installed it. Changed the bios for one hd, formatted(long), and installed new os....same s**t. Oh 1 video card only on reinstall. Intel drivers failed 3 times before they finally installed. When I tried ATI drivers I got these messages. 1.error extacting support files remote procedure failed 2. The instruction 0x73dd4eaa failed referenced memory at "0x00050003" memory could not be written. 3. error extracting support files catastrophic failure. Sweet messages, huh. I think memory, chip, hd's, and v cards are ok. That leaves mobo and ps. Any suggestions?
0.1 Go into the BIOS of your motherboard and ensure that HDD S.M.A.R.T is enabled.
1. I am guessing that you installed Windows from scratch on that spare hard drive you had, is this correct ?
2. If the answer to 1. above is "yes" then do you get any errors at all during the Windows installation ?
3. I know you said you tested the memory, now that the system is giving you all kinds of headaches again, I suggest you re-test it now using memtest. Let us know the result.
It sounds like a hardware problem but, if it were, you should have problems during the Windows installation yet, it doesn't seem you experience any at that time (at least you didn't mention any).
Ok, smart is and was enabled. Also, the first time I tried the fresh install of windows it failed with this message....stopc000021a[fatal system error] windows subsystem system has shut down terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000001d(0x75e9d4c9)0x0051ef98 the system has been shut down. Im running mem test 86 as I type this(on another comp) Im going to let it cycle a few times. Also, I ran check disc, it went through four phases and no error messages. Ok, ran mem test for 3 hours(6 cycles no errors on test or event log. Thanks Again!

a. Since you've been running Memtest for several hours without errors it is reasonable to presume that the memory is working.
b. Since SMART didn't give you any errors, it is reasonable to presume your hard drive is working. However, did you do a full format when you installed Windows ? if not, the problems could be caused by bad sectors.
If your hard drive and memory are working properly and you get all the problems after a clean/full Windows install, that doesn't leave very many possibilities.
What's left is,
1. Your power supply does not provide clean consistent power.
2. CPU or motherboard are flaky (they become unstable as their temperature rises)
3. Your CD/DVD unit isn't reading the Windows CD properly. This can explain the error message you got during installation (0x21a - a process required by Windows terminated unexpectedly).
I would try this next,
Replace the IDE cable on your CD/DVD unit and try installing Windows again. The next thing I'd try is a different power supply.
Also, strange as this may sound, on your motherboard there is likely a SATA port that is black (this is usually port 1). If you have a black SATA port, make sure one and only one of your raptors is connected to that port before you attempt reinstalling Windows.
Try the above.
It is almost certain that the source of the problems is in the hardware. Now it is a matter of going thru a process of elimination.
