Hi folks,

I have been researching a while for my new PC and now I am kinda stuck with what the frequencies must be.

Basically I am thinking about building a system with the below specs:

- Intel Conroe E6600 CPU (FSB 1066MHz)
- ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe (FSB 1066/800/533MHz, Memory Support upto 800MHz)
- OCZ or Mushkin 6400 (800MHz) 2GB Memory modules

As you can see, the CPU works on the 1066MHz frequency and MB also supports the FSB.

However the MB only supports 800MHz memory speed ... does this mean that it will not fully utilize the Conroe processor i.e. the Cornoe will work at downgraded speed of 800MHz?

Or should I go and buy more expensive 8000 (1066MHz) memories??

Thanks. :?:

Thank you very much for the useful link and info, wusy.

But my problem still remains ... please follow the link (all in Canadian dollars) and see the OCZ memories:

Memory price

1. The 4200 (PC2-4200 Gold Dual Channel - $269) is more expensive than 6400 one (PC2-6400 Gold Gamer Extreme $224 after rebate)
2. The 8000 (according to the 266MHz theory, this will synchronize with my Conroe if OC'ed just a little bit, correct?) is wayyyy more expensive than any other modules

Do you think I have to look for 4200 DDR2? Or go grab 6400 one before it is too late i.e. before the rebate is over?

Any other suggestions such as other memory manufacturers, etc. are welcome.

One last question ...

Between the below two options, what would you recommend?

1. Buy Mushkin XP2 1GB 8000 memory for CAD $199 for now
- Then OC it to 1066MHz frequency (But would this cause a problem?)
2. Or like you said, just go with OCZ 2GB 6400 (800MHz) for CAD $225
- Sure the size may make difference but if the "synchronization" worth the size by boosting up the speed, I think I can go with less-but-faster memory?

Thanks again.

Thank you so much wusy.

That concludes my lesson and clarify what I have to do.

... "Is it true that OCZ memory causes some compatibilty problem with most of motherboard?" ...

2GB is the standard now and a must for nowdays gaming.

If you're playing massively bloated code (like Oblivion). Don't know anything else at the moment. But what the hey. Future proof what you can (as if).

Right now I'm using half a gig (my other stick died), and Quake four is running smoothly. Only in a serious firefight can I tell a difference. I'd still like more. Obviously.
