I've been looking to buy a new laptop to replace my aging PIII 650 Sceptre SoundX 6900, which is basically a Dell Inspiron 5000. Anyway there are a bunch of new laptops out. I've looked at all the big names (Sony, Toshiba, Dell, Compaq, Etc.) but they don't seem to have the fastest laptops on the market. I've found a few that look GREAT but I am not sure about which one is acutally the best.

Check out this web site:

www.accpc.com - American Computer

They've got both P4 and P4m computers runnning a various speeds and featuring firewire and USB 2.0 on board, plus DVD + CD-RW, and good 3D graphics for under $3000? I paid about $3000 for my P3 650 a little over 2 years ago! I know I want a 15 inch screen, 256 ram , firewire, and DVD/CDRW. I NEED TO UPGRADE NOW! WHAT SHOULD I BUY? Any recommendations for a killer laptop for under $3000?

As long as you are aware that most of the "killer" speed demon notebooks are using desktop processors that consume way more power and run very hot, and are okay with that, consider the really fast models. I would advise looking for a notebook running the Pentium 4-M processor, which is meant for mobile use and will not die out after an hour of running on the battery, not to mention possibly getting much too hot for such a cramped space. It'll also reduce the weight of the computer slightly, as mobile processors will not need exotic cooling methods like multiple fans.

As lakedude has been pimping Prostar hard in the last few days, I will do him a favor recommend checking their site for Pentium 4-M based notebooks. ;)
