I just put my computer togather today. Poped Fan in all the way( very hard) The artic silver instructions say_____ Thermal pads can be scraped off with a plastic tool that will not scratch the bottom _____ is that the 3 little rectaingle and trapizoids on the stock heat sink? My 6400 temp went to 68C During bios(load 66min) Asus probe 2 after like 4 hr reads CPU 56C MB 45C. Been adding programs tops 61C then goes down to 53-56ish C .... Stock heatsink with artic silver 5... The cpu fan has not hit 3000RPM... It goes to 2770-2975RPM What else can i do to lower it?

My first built computer i dont know much. help thanks :?

There was another thread, basically the same thing.

He found his solution:

Another update and happy ending. Temps below in format Core Temp/ASUS Probe.

I have re-applied AS5 third time. Turned on system...

Idle temp: 39c/43c
2xPrime95: 63c/68c after ~ 5 minutes.

At that point I was quite disappointed with results.

Then I tried check the plastic fasteners. Tried pushed a little harder without pulling processor out. Pressed hard on on one, then another, and then I pressed quite hard on pin closest to CPU FAN mb contact... And I heard quite load crack sound... I thought sh%t, I broke my motherboard....

Immedeately turned on system, to check if it boots... And it did boot!

And what I see now?
Idle: 33c/37c
2xPrime95 after ~15 min: 48c/51c!!!

So, i guess that crack sound was final snap of the pin.. It was pretty loud to me...
Good part is that processor gets proper cooling now. I am quite happy about that.

Thank you very much everyone for advices and recommendations!!!!
:D

The thread is:

Conroe E6600 temp: 47c - idle, 72C - on heavy load...

Rather then pull it out (redo installation), just push on the pins to see if you can get some kind of pop to indicatate a more secure fitting of the HSF.

Hmmmm.. are you getting good air flow? What PC case you using?

Perhaps opening up the case might help? Also, room temp will affect your temps, so if your room is like 80F (28C) that will cause load temps to be high.

Asus probe 2 after like 4 hr reads CPU 56C MB 45C.

45C MB temp is WAY to high
Get some better airflow or just open it up for now it will also lower your CPU temp.

CPU temp 11C over MB isnt to bad. But if you can only get the case temp (MB) down like 10C (or more) then your CPU will also get like 46C and thats more like it should be...
