I am about to purchase an 18.1" flat panel and have my choices narrowed down to 3 models:

NEC LCD1830-BK
NEC LCD1850E-BK
Sony S81/B

Does anybody have ideas about which is better or a link to an article where they are compared?

Thanks,

well, Nec 1850E price is certainly very attractive!

but Sony use the thin brezel and might be more stylish!

my vote go to Sony

all of them are close in price. I can get the NEC's for about $780 or the Sony for $830. If I would have purchased yesterday I could have gotten the Sony for $730.

i think you can get the NEC monitor pretty cheap from dell.com with a stack of coupons, but its up to you, i have never used any of these monitors.

The likewise can be done for the Sony. Looking at the specs, the Sony is considerably better, as both NEC's have 50ms response time, vs 30ms on the Sony. Also, the Sony has higher contrast, and equally good viewing angles, and plus, I find its design very sexy (I almost got one w/ the Dell offer, but decided to wait for FFD). Go for the Sony.

But it's an inch smaller (he may want only 18" ), and honestly, I think the Sony has better styling.
