I re-installed windows xp on a reformatted harddrive last night. I went to
windows update to get all of the latest critical updates. They all failed
and I can't find a reason why. Anyone know what I can try?

Thanks,
Anneliese

Try Start>Run and type in the Open box "sfc /scannow" (no quotes, space
before the '/') to repair any corrupted system files. If the problem
persists after that, see the following link for how to do a repair install
of XP:

Try to install the SP2 at first. You can also install the Updates from
the Windows Update Catalog. See "How to Download Windows Updates and
Drivers from the Windows Update Catalog on Windows XP"

Hi,

Double-click the clock, check the date settings (in particular the year). If
off by more than 90 days, this can cause the issue you are seeing.

Also, go to the Control Panel/Internet Options and click languages on the
general tab, make sure at least your default language is listed.
