I just ordered a X2:4600 socket 939 from newegg to replace the 3700 san diego, i currently have.
Can i just swap out these chips "without reinstalling windows"?

And is there anything else i should no about this upgrade?
I thought i read something about a driver for the X2 chips?

Thanks

Just swap the chip and load the AMD driver easy to find on their web site. Remember CPU paste if you are reusing the fan and such, if it comes with a new one you shuold be good to go.

Ditto the last post, I replaced my +3000 with a 2X+4400 with no trouble.
As long as you have XP/SP2, flash your Bio's to the latest Rev, and load the most current AMD X2 drivers (from AMD’s web site) you should see both cores in; System-Hardware-Device Manager-Processor.
You might think about installing Microsoft’s HotFix for AMD dual cores. It’s only needed for a few games but it probably wont hurt to install (I did and haven’t had any problems).
Just make sure you follow the directions carefully as it involves making Reregistery changes.
