I am building a new core 2 duo pc. I understand intels chipsets which support crossfire, but i want to build an sli pc. I dont understand nvidia mobo chipsets so if someone can give me a quick run down i would appreciate it. Which is the best? Nforce4 or Nforce4 SLI X16 ? Thanks. or if the best is a different model let me know

Nforce 5 (570) is out now but thats not going to be the best. There should be a 590 chipset available hopefully Sept 1st if it doesnt get pushed back again. Then you could get a Asus with the 590 chipset that would be the best. Unless you hate Asus then I would suggest waiting for the DFI 590 board.

arent the nforce 570 and 590 mobos only for amd's because thats all i found. Its because im trying to build an intel. Thanks

the 590s are not out yet... should be soon

Asus has a 570 one thats out but has some issues with not being able to push enough voltage to some types of memory.

570s and 590s are coming for the intel chips but they are not out in force yet

Quality C2D boards are in short supply right now. I think its best to watch at least through September to see what is coming down the pike.

939 = Old, mature, stable, should have few bugs left, possibly cheaper (although my dealers have X2 prices the same for both 939 & AM2). But the X2-4800 and FX-60 are the fastest ye're getting. ever.

AM2 = New, only came out in May. Some mobos could have bugs still on, but the ongoing support is going to be better than 939. Will take any AM2 cpu from now until the end-of-socket (in 2-3 years), and probably (but not concrete) any AM3 cpu, for 2-3 years after that.

IMHO, buying a 590SLI is not worth the extra money just for 2*16 lanes compared to a 570SLI with 2*8 lanes. it'll all depend on the extra features (like wifi on the m2n32-sli/dxe)

I thought it was the AM3 that would support AM2 chips, not the other way around?

I could be mistaken however.

My understanding is that AM3 CPUs will have 939pins, and incorporate both DDR2 AND DDR3 memory controllers, and that they will plug be able to plug into AM2 motherboards.

Although, i could also be mistaken.

And given that AM3 is At Least 2 years away, we could end up both being mistaken :)

Wow its hard to find an answer currently, I am now looking at doing SLI, I dont care about Tri SLI but I would like to run dual cards and maybe a wolfdale CPU. Whats the best board for that? Whats the best bang for the buck?

The 780i easily OCd to 3.2 @x8 multi and 1600 FSB and a boost to VCore. my 680i would freeze at anything near 320FSB. It has the Trip SLI, but of course you dont have to use it... However!!! Its showing 2.75 Gigs of my 4 gigs. THAT IS LAME!!!! I was Pi$$ed when windows shows 3.25, and not 3.5!! But less than 3 gigs??? Trash!
Will try and update the bios later, but the stupid method is weird, Burn the Iso back to a disk and boot from it?? Yeah right, lol!!! Tried with DVDR, R+. and RW. None boot.

Firstly, looking into a thread that was made 2 years ago will not answer your question. Make a new thread on it.

Eh I said screw sli which looks to be over rated, got Wolfdale E8400 running at 3.6 GHZ with 8 gigs ram.
