i have just bought a sony dvd internal drive and have installed it on the same ide chain as my orignal dvd drive. i set the new drive to slave on the middle connector and i believe i set the old drive to primary but could not be sure as the drive had no markings on it indicating which set of pins was which (i put the pins in the same place as the new drive said primary would be). After installing it and turning on the pc , the drive was recognized in my computer. Eager to backup my important doc i slipped in a dvd+RW and closed the drive. niothing happened so i clicked on the drive, it said something along the lines of cannot be read. Thuis was confusing considering that the drive suppourts RW.I then decided to pop in a movie dvd and to my dismay it played as choppy as my old pc trying to run Hl2!!! (thats bad). Completely flumexed i decided to go and note down the error message i recived when putting in a dvd+RW but this time no error message, only when i tried to copy my pictures and music in it said this folder contains pictures cannot continue (or once again something along those lines (sorry my memorys really bad))
p.s. my orignal drive functions fine.

edit:after posting elsewhere i have been informed to set both dvd drives to cable select, i did so too no avail, same problem.

check the documentation... make sure one drive is Master, and one is slave... Then upgrade firmware, etc... Try CS too... Put your old DVD player in it and see if it still works...

Looks like its a replacement for you... these drives are crap... they cost $20-$40, and they die all the time...

RMA it.
