Archived from groups: microsoft.public.win2000.file_system (More info?)

I tried to open software.log file in
\winnt\system32\config\, but all the time I'm getting this
massage:"The file is locked by another process".
I tried to reboot, but nothing happened.
So,I would like to know how to unlock the file, and is that
somehow connected to the file system.

Not possible while the OS is running. Part of the Windows 2000 registry.
