i have posted a thread already about my video card...agp 7800gs from bfg. i have the possiblity to sell it and for 100$ extra, get the x1900xt. i am aware i will have to purchase a motherboard 100-200$ but do you think this is worth upgrading. how much better will my games run...bf2, oblivion? i will be purchasing a 24 inch monitor soon. whether it's acer or Dell's i have not decided. within 6 months, when dx10 comes out, i will upgrade 2 conroe and new card. Since i can get a good price for my agp, i think this would be a good move for me if i am to gain quality on high resolution when i purchase my new lcd. With my AGP, i am running almost everythin at 1280X1024 full settings on my vx924 with no lagging except bf2 and oblivion...i mentionned the ati card because all over this site, we see it's the best price-value card right now...and what's crossfire, is it worth the extra 50$...and last but not least, is there a big difference between the a8rmvp and the a8r32 mvp board... my processor i a 3800+ single core. if you recommend another board, please feel free to do so. greatly appreciated.
Well, I don't consider myself to be an expert at all but I do have the HIS X1900XT vid card and the 24 inch Acer monitor and I think both are great. I run most games on 1900 X 1200 and it's amazing. I don't think I could ever go back to 1280 X 1024. I have never had a 7800 GS but I think upgrading from AGP to PCI-E alone would give a performance boost. I play both Oblivion and BF 2 and have no problems running either one the way I want it. Like I said, I'm not an expert by any means but I am happy with both of the items you are considering.

Tests have showned that there is 1 ~ 3% improvement.
Check this VGA charts to see exactly how much yould be gaining with a X1900XT.
Dont jump right into the water with DX10, if youre happy with your gfx card and you play everything you want to play then stick to it.
Anyways Vista will be a pain in the a$s at first, and no games will fully use DX10 until Q1 2008.
Thanks for the correction. Like I said, I'm not expert and don't pretend to be. I assume that the reason my AGP to PCI-E upgrade produced a great performance increase was because I went from a 9800 Pro to a X1900XT. 8O Anyway, always glad to learn new stuff.

Yet, we have seen that the AGP version of the same card with the same specs sometimes slightly outperforms it's PCI-e equal. Probably because of fast writes. I say a 7800GS on a NF3 would perform the same as if there were an identical PCI-e version on NF4.
You will see a huge improvement going 7800GS to X1900XT in Oblivion. BF2 also. I had a full fledged 7800GT CO and saw a huge Oblivion and noticeable BF2 improvement going to a X1800XT. And the 7800GT>7800GS and the X1900XT>X1800XT, so your improvement (on a high end rig) would be much larger than I saw. The 24" monitor seals the deal as the 7800GS is not going to offer very good performance at it's 1920x1200 native resolution.
