i "cut" some files from a local drive and "pasted" them
on a server during a profile change for a user. the files
on the server that were pasted were overwritten. is there
a utility/software program out there to recover cut files
off the local drive? how is the cut procedure in windows
treated? is it like a delete?

Cut is like delete, yes.
Do you have any backups?

no backups. i have downloaded several undelete programs
and have not been able to get any of them to discover the
files that were cut. is there one that you know of that
will recover cut files? it was immediate that i knew that
the files were missing and overwritten on the server and
nothing has been written to the local drive on the
workstation since the files were cut.

I'm afraid you're probably out of luck, then. Sorry.

I'm having the same doubt, why would system delete the files since I didn't paste it successfully?

If you are talking about a new issue you had, if you "cut" but did not paste, the files would be held in the temp clipboard for a bit (maybe till next time you log off or reboot). In the post from 10 YEARS AGO, the situation was that the files that were pasted where then overwritten. If there was not clipboard files saved to paste the files from again, they would be lost.
