giving items to npcs

How do you manage it? I've got this 1/2 naked Nord following me in
Caldera (can't find his bloomin festering witch) so he's playing
mister underfoot and interfering with fights, etc.

If I could give him a weapon and armor, he might be of some use...

Try looking on the "back road to Ald'ruhn"

you can miss those types...kill him...

Euh, yes they can be missed, and arn't tide to any quests. But the Nord
near Caldera has a nice sidequest with a great reward. Personaly i think
its bad to just kill someone just because you can't figure out his quest.

Ontopic: if you are on PC, try to find some companion mods. There are a
great deal of usermods which give you a travelcompanion who will fight
for, and with you.

Have alook at the paper-map or the signposts,
and take the nearest road to Ald'ruhn. You can't miss the witch...

On PC: Open the console, click on him
(his internal ID now shows up on top of the console-window)

Now type:

Additem "nordic battle axe" 1
Additem "orcish_cuirass" 1

You don't kill him because he's a pain, you kill him because you side with
the so called witch and he attacks!(he was a sot trying to take advantage of
her if you need more moral justification!)
justification according to the laws of morrowind!!
