AIW x800xt purchase doubts

I have this PC :

Pentium 4 2.53GHz
512 MB RAM
AGP 4x supported

If I consider purchasing an AIW x800xt, I think that upgrading the 512MB RAM on the system to 1GB would be a good idea, or am I wrong? Is purchasing that graphic card a good idea? I have a $180 - $200 budget.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Upgrading to 1gb of RAM is a very good idea. Adding more RAM is usually a great idea anyway.

If you can get more RAM, and the video card, go for it, it'll be a good upgrade.

Is the video card a good idea? First, we need to know what your current video card is. Next, we need to know the brand and specs of your PSU. Then we also need to know what games you want to play and at what settings.

My current video card is a Radeon 9000. At the moment I don't know what PSU (power supply unit if I'm not wrong, I'm Spanish) I have, but I think it'll give around 350W. I'd like it to play all kind of games, new and old without problem (Quake 4, Doom 3, Age of Empires 3, Pro Evolution 5, etc.). Settings 1280 x 1024, at high FPS and all effects enabled at medium or high if possible.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have that card and it does the job well enough. 1GB will help allot as well with textures and the likes. Then you will need to upgrade your CPU to get more out of games. Then you will need a new motherboard to accept the new CPU. Then you will need a new case because it is making to much heat. Then you will need a power supply because you need more juice to overclock. Then you will need a new graphics card because you need to use shader version 11.9718765. What where we writing about?

The power supply's maximum output is 250W, which I think isn't enough for the AIW x800xt. I would have to consider purchasing a new one, and maybe buying so many things isn't worth the money.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I can buy a 500W for less than $25, or a 400W for $20. Is it worth it to update the computer for those $250 (512MB RAM + AIW x800xt + PSU)?

So, you want to get a cheap, crappy power supply, and burn your system? Spend like $50 for an FSP power supply. They're very well priced.

400W is more than enough, but the PSU has to be a good brand.

I don't want to buy a crappy power supply, the one I saw on their webpage is the generic or basic one. Then there was a Thermaltek of 500W for 170€ (more or less $210) or 430W for $150, way too much for me. The one I have at the moment is FSP. I'll take note of what you've said.

Thanks in advance for your help.
