i am trying to get rid of the My Pictures and My eBooks
in my folder but they keep regenerating themselves even
if I move them into a Misc folder in the same location. I
renamed the My Pictures folder "Photos" but it continues
to create a new My Pictures folder. Doesn't lend itself
to a lot of customization, which is rather surprising
since this is exactly where you want to control what you
see & don't see? have given up deleting the shared folder
since i have no intention of sharing the computer with
anyone but that was a bust as well. any easy way to get
rid of these things? thanks.

You can't delete or rename System folders: the folder you want to change are
such.

Get a users gide to XP and understand the way to use this Operating System,
you'll be happier working WITH it than working AGAINST it.

These are not typical folders. They are system folders. Leave them be.

Aha, another that can't stand the whole 'My' folders thing !!!

I searched for a solution for this for so long and finally found it. Those
folders are not system folders. They are created by a windows dll.

From the start menu -> run, type in:

regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll

Press return, this will unregister that dll file. No more 'My' folders.

If for any reason you want to undo this, just run the same command w/o the
/u.

And just where do you find mydoc.dll? In the C:\windows\system folder, that
where.

Now if a program in the system folder generates folders, doesn't that make
them system folders?

Not in my opinion. It's not a program, it's only a dll, a library. The
folders it's creates are not required for Windows to run. The MyEbooks,
which I didn't notice in the OP, is actually ctreated by Abode Acrobat, so
that is definately not a system folder. I did need a tip on a webpage on
how to stop that from being regenerated also. I don't recall if that one is
also taken care of by unregistering mydocs.dll.

DanS
