hey guys. I was wondering something. A friend of mine wants a basic computer( he in the dark ages about computers tho) I was wondering which of the 805/915 would be better? I probly gonna mess around overclockin it before I give it to him. so even tho the 915 has 800bus speed and 65 nm the 805 maybe easier/better oc? sorry if this dumb question, but thanks for help

I would say go for the 915. Better Cpu benchmarks for another 50 bucks.
Why overclock? Unless you want him calling you to fix problems all the time.

If your friend is on a really tight budget and just wants a web browser/office app computer, I would go for a semp 3100+ am2, or even a used Gateway can be a lot cheaper than a custom built system.

cheers

If hes not on a budget, then why not go conroe?

The lowest end Conroe cpu will outperform an overclocked PentiumD 915 processor at stock speed. Just look at toms benchmarks. The Core2Duo processor isnt overly expensive.

Plus it runs cooler....

915. Faster (at stock speed), runs cooler, uses less power, overclocks better. I'd strongly urge you NOT to screw around overclocking someone else's computer; otherwise you might end up buying him a new CPU.

yeah i thought about amd, still thinkin about it. as for the friend, im buyin the computer for him so if i mess anything up its already on me. he doesnt need it for much just some basic tasks and light CAD work. how good is the stock cooler for the x2? never used one before

I'd really say am2.
Because otherwise your buying the third best processor.
Just my thought though.
Am2=cooler/less power than a D.
