I'm upgrading atm, and is the 7900gs the best card in this price range?I don't know anything about the 7900GS, but I can't imagine by it's name that it is as good as a 7900GT, which is at best equal to a $200 X1800XT. We shall have to see when reviews come out, but I just have a hunch by the name that the $195 X1900GT will also beat it. What NV needs to do is drop the 7900GT down to $200.
Here's some old news about the 7900GS from HKEPC.
BTW, if there was a 7900GS at Newegg, it's not there now.

Yes, very strange indeed. Its like newegg made a uh-oh and released the card a little too early. Who knows?

isnt it just a 7800gt remake? on 90nm? gonna suck if u ask me.It's not a 7800GT remake; the clock speeds are considerably higher.
I think that the 7900GS is supposed to compete with the X1650Pro/XT. If the the X1650 is anything like the X1600, then it MIGHT compete with the 7600GT; however it will be blown away by the 7900GS.
IMO, they'll have to price the 7900GS closer to $150; otherwise it won't be worth it over an X1800XT/7900GT.
that means.. if the bus remains a 256bit.. hte 7900gs will severly hurt a 7800gt... which means if hte 7900gs is priced at 200.. the 7800gt should fall to what? 150? which puts the 7600gt at 100?... wow.. im smelling a good time to go shoppin... Plus the 7900gt is a g71. potentially unlockable to a full 7900gt..

How do you know? I dont see it available at retail yet.Woot launch items arent always the insane low prices that people are used to...i would say they gave us $10 off of OEM price, and the retail price is prolly 20-30 more...
My estimation, lets see what it is retail when it is actually available.
and look what is out in full force for around 200 bux
It's the price of an X1800XT. Even at $180, the 7900GS doesn't make sense when an X1800XT will slaughter it for $20 more.
EDIT: The $200 X1800XTs are, once again, gone from newegg (damn; those went really fast this time), but they should come back in stock. In the meantime, THIS is a really good deal. Some people might not like that it's open box, but it's still an X1800XT for $180.
All the cheap X1900GTs have dried up, as well. It seems that all the good ATI deals are disappearing
. Damn. I guess one should just monitor newegg religiously, and order the minute they come back in stock.

I'm in disbeleif. I can't see how a 7900GS can outperform a 7900GT. BTW, where'd you get yours for $130?

What a deal. Wanna post some benchies?
here are some:
BFG GeForce 7900 GS OC - $215.99
eVGA e-GeForce 7900 GS - $199.99
XFX PV-T71P-UDE3 GeForce 7900 GS Extreme Edition - $219.99
take your pick

Seems the high clocked ones can beat the reference 7900GT. Surprisingly, in FS's review, the X1900GT beat both the 7900GT and the 7900GS's, in the majority of games. Most of the big titles (in my eyes)... BF2, COD2, Fear (nearly a tie), Oblivion, & Farcry HDR all went to the X1900GT, while Q4 and the 3 flight sim's went to the 7900's. 7900GS could be a serious good buy if priced right, most 7900GT's are overpriced IMO.

Read that review and see what games matter most to you. The X1900GT takes HL2 Lost Coast, Oblivion, COD2, BF2, Farcry, and Fear. The 7900's win at Quake 4, Flight Sim, Lomac, and Pacific Fighters. Personally I'd rather have the X1900GT for my gaming needs, but what games matter to you?
