hi all im gona be building a system, not sure amd yet or conroe, will probably complete the build nov/ december but im starting my planing and purchasing now.

im going to be using a coolermaster stacker, this case has room for two power supplies and comes with a 24pin y that alllows both powre supplies to boot off the power switch.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E1681...

My plan is to use a corsair 620watt power supply for my motherboard and graphics cards, this ps has goten great reviews and comes with a 5 year warranty some reviews say its one of the best around Corsair ps is built by seasonic and is modular which fits my needs.. which i plan to eventually have two dx10 sli cards.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E1681...

Then i plan on using a antec smart power or neo power 500 watt modular ps for my drives and fans, will be having four 80gb hard drives in raid 0 and two dvd drives. have total of 4 120 fans and 2 80 fans in the stacker.

My Question is this, ive heard rumors of really high wattage requirments for the dx10 cards, of course thats based apon one ps for the whole system, what do you guys think, the excellent corsair 620 that has 600 watts on the three 12v lines alone will be good enough for two dx10 cards or should i look for a higher wattage main ps, i do need modular and at least a 3 year warranty, any reccomendations i dont want to spend 400 bucks for a 1000wat if i dont have to.

thanks to those who reply with advice, its much appreciated!

For the new cards, in SLI or xfire, I'd go with the 1 mili-amp psu. It's going to be needed.

ATI and NVIDIA have been briefing power supply manufacturers in Taiwan recently about what to expect for next year’s R600 and G80 GPUs. Both GPUs will be introduced in late 2006 or early 2007, and while we don’t know the specifications of the new cores we do know that they will be extremely power hungry. The new GPUs will range in power consumption from 130W up to 300W per card. ATI and NVIDIA won't confirm or deny our findings and we are receiving conflicting information as to the exact specifications of these new GPUs, but the one thing is for sure is that the power requirements are steep.

Power supply makers are being briefed now in order to make sure that the power supplies they are shipping by the end of this year are up to par with the high end GPU requirements for late 2006/early 2007. You will see both higher wattage PSUs (1000 - 1200W) as well as secondary units specifically for graphics cards. One configuration we’ve seen is a standard PSU mounted in your case for your motherboard, CPU and drives, running alongside a secondary PSU installed in a 5.25” drive bay. The secondary PSU would then be used to power your graphics cards.

So based on rumours to have a dx10 sli or xfire a 1kw PSU would not be a bad idea.

I think you'd be smarter to just get the 500W PS now and wait until you buy your hoopdie video cards and see what else you might need. A 500W power supply for 4 disks and a couple fans? Oooo-kayyy.

I also suggest you save your money and purchase everything at once. You start buying stuff now and then what happens if something doesn't work when you put it together? Wait until you're ready to build it and buy it all together so you can test it and return it if it's defective.

Why not get 1kw psu and another one later. Now thats upgradeability.

Anyone know when the first 1MW power supply will be availible? I need at least a 100-200amp 12volt rail.

well if there saying each card needs 300wat, and thats 600 watt plus the mottherboard/processer a 620 may not be enough?

...Otherwise everyone will need there own fusion reactor to power there PC's.
Imagin getting a electric bill for $15000 when the only thing you are running is your computer.

I thing you mean 1gw PSU. A 1mw PSU would only be putting out 0.001 watts. You get more then that from a AAA battery. :D

NO i ment what i said... which was MW meaning Mega Watt.

Well if your going as far as A GW internal power supply, why not just have an antimater reactor like on the Enterprise. The enterprise has a 12.75billion GW generator. Thats 12,750,000,000,000x1,000,000,000 watts. Im sure that would power 2 dx10 cards in SLI.

Then i will power the rest off 9v batteries.

They are only a dollar each. I could make a long distance phonecall instead though... anyone wanna gimme their phoen number?
