Problem: All of a sudden my cd burner on my desktop pc quit working. Windows still detects it but when I put a cd in it nothing happens. Device Manager shows a problem with it but troubleshooter can't find the problem. I made sure I had an updated driver. Anyway, I bought a replacement and same thing. Sooooooo, I figured maybe it had something to do with the cable so I bought an external dvdrw drive. Plugged into my laptop it works great, but when I plug into the desktop it does the same thing. :x

Solution: ??

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

You should have listed your system specs when you first posted this problem

Two things you could try...

Take the burner out and try it on a different computer.

If you have a second IDE port, try switching it over to that one and see if it makes a difference.

I would suggest what they said first, if that still doenst work, your windows could have become currupt. you could try uninstalling it from device manager and than reinstall it.

You really really need to list your system specs.

CD Burners don't need you to load drivers for them in WindowsXP, which would lead me to believe that you are using an older version of windows perhaps?

check your bios and see if your cdrom is enabled. after the post beep at startup tap the del key.
