Excel, PowerPoint, Word Won't Load File from Window Explorer

OS: window 2000 pro
Office: office XP

Symptoms: clicing on the icon of an excel file in window
explorer. An error message appears: "Cannot find
file 'f:\path\xyz.xls' (or one ofits components). Make
sure the file path is correct and al required libraries
are available

Symptons: clicking on the icon or word (or powerpont) in
window explorer will open a blank application windown
(withot contend of the file).
