Does it not concern folks that even after 3 installments (URU: Ages Beyond
Myst, to D'ni & Path of the Shell)), the bookshelf in Relto will probably
still be mostly empty?

A rudimentary 'age-editor' might go some way toward letting us have our own
fun and releasing our own Ages onto the web.

Unfortunately, I can imagine the file sizes would be phenomenally huge for
those of us on Dial-Up!

Well, the original idea was that they would release new Ages to the
online game every month or so, so there was lots of room left for that
purpose. Now that the online side has been scrapped, there's room for
plenty of offline expansions (at least some of which will hopefully be
free downloads.)

An Age Editor would be phenomenally cool but I don't see how they
could do that and hold up the same caliber of graphics they have pushed
for throughout Myst's history.

And then there's that. :)

It was the graphics aspect that I was thinking would push the file-size up.

Unless we were to make do with low-res graphics from a Age-editor and make
do we'd be OK.

Then the official Ages would instantly be recognisable due to their far
superior graphics!

Yes it would, but I was referring more to the technical aspect of
making a user interface that could generate worlds like those seen in
the Myst games. Making worlds with that level of detail is not easy.
Making a program that could create those worlds in a drag and drop
interface like the level editors in most other games would be a damn
tricky feat, I should imagine.

You're probably right.

But still, it's a nice dream - to have an editor for creating your own Ages.
