so the ram of my cpu was causing the post to freeze, but now i have another problem. after fully installing a registered copy of xp, i restarted my cpu and it told me that the cpu was booting from the cd/dvd drive, eventhough that was out of its boot priority. it would prompt me to insert the system disk eventhough xp is fully installed. i tried messing around with the boot order in the bios but that still didn't work. i updated the bios, and still nothing. i also tried resetting the CMOS by shorting the battery jumper and removing the battery itself, but that didn't work either. so now i'm at a dead-end. could someone help me out? i never had this problem with my asus motherboards.

Did you create the partition and format the disk manually, or did you do it with the XP install menu? It will have that behavior if the boot disk/partition is not set active, or it may also do it if there is no driver loaded for a raid controller [and you are using the controller for the boot disk]
