I have my folders set to list view. All of the sudden now
the columns (lists) are farther apart than they were
before. The names of the files aren't long, so that's not
the reason. Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks
in advance.

Hi, Kira.

Are you sure the file/folder names are not long? I don't use the List view
often, so I don't know about its quirks. Apparently, though, it's column
widths are not adjustable (as in the Detail view). But the
automatically-set column widths seem to be set wide enough for the longest
name, even if that longest name is not on-screen currently. In other words,
you may be seeing just the first 20 names, all short, but the column is much
wider because the 80th name is very long and Explorer wants to be ready to
display that name (when you scroll down to it) without resizing the column.

If that's not the explanation, please post back with some examples.
