I've just bought an HIS X1900XT IceQ3 hoping that with the improved cooling unit I'd get some impresseive overclocks. However 3DMark06 stalls towards the end of the first test with the gpu at anything above 662MHz and I start to get heavy artifacts about halfway through with the memory at anything over 756MHz. And this is with an extra case fan blowing directly at the side of the card by the memory heat sink. I have Cat 6.8 and have been manually tuning it with overdrive. I know this might be a dumb question but do I have to face the music and realise that I've got a card that doesn't oc well or am I missing something?
It's working at stock speeds, and that is all that is ever guaranteed. Never 'expect' any item to overclock, results vary from card to card (of the same brand / type etc) you may just have one with a little less headroom than others...
Because apart from soft shadows which I kept off,I turned up ALL the options in FEAR to maximum @ 1280 x 960, v sync on, and although the in game bench test ran fine, when I started the game and got out of the car the frame rate was noticeably slouchy, maybe less than 20fps (I haven't reinstalled FRAPS yet). I just thought I might be able to get it up to XTX speeds and up the frame rate a little, especially as it barely hits 80*C under load.
Oh, I don't have HL2. Incidentally, i know it's a bit off topic but do you know if CoD2 supports AMD dual core processors, I was just reading the 1.3 patch readme and it only mentions support for Intel dual core & hyperthreading?
*I'll install fraps tomorrow and see what effect vsync has! May start playing with voltages too!!!
pretty damn certain. As I said I'm confident it's not heat, but anything over 662gpu and 3DMark06 hangs my pc shortly into the test, and anything over 756mem gives me chequered squares and if I quit quickly enough leaves marks all over windows!
