Im not sure if this is a CPU problem, but im posting it here anyway.

I recently replaced everything in my computer minus my MB and chip, to correct a error every time I tried playing a game. When I tried playing any 3d game my comp would lock up and the only way I could shut it down was to hold the power button. And after my reformat its doing it again. I ran dxdiag like my friend suggested and found no problems, but that doesnt help a whole lot. So here i am if anyone can help me please do. Here is the dxdiag post. I know im running the onboard sound and a sb-xfi, but I cant use my mic if I dont since the digital I/O port on the X-FI is the same a the mic port and I only have digital speakers. I tried disabling one and then the other to see if they were the cause, but it still locked up. I also rolled back my graphics drivers to see if they were the cause the ones on the post are disk stock drivers.

Couple questions:

1. Does it lock up in other games?
2. I know u said u replaced everything, but want to make sure... have u replaced the RAM?
3. Expanding on that, have u run memtest86?
4. Temperature could be an issue, do u have a way of monitoring the temps of your video card, system, and CPU?
5. What model and manufacturer is ur motherboard?

Lock ups (in games) are typically attributed to either heat or bad memory from my experience. Though, i have seen mobo's cause lock ups in games as well. In the summer, my system often locks up in games because of heat. It's not uncommon for Prey to lock up on me 'cause my temps get ridiculous (I live in the desert).

If you can answer those questions, we can further assist u in diagnosing ur problem.

Yes it locks up on any 3d application, im gonna downlaod and run 3dmark05 today see if it locks up in that also, it did prior to repalcing the graphics card.

Its an asus MB model a7v600. I did replace the memory I had 512 installed previosly and I replaced it with 2 512 sticks of kingston hyper x memory. As for the heat problem It doesnt seem to be that I have asus pc probe installed and my comp stays around the 50-70C range 70 if im doing anything strenouse, but my chip is rated to go to 85% without a problem I was told in a previous thread. Also it happens after a cold start with ac running in the house. Even though it only 70F outside. Ive also been having problems with my mouse and keyboard not responding mostly the mouse just stops working(both PS/2).

100% it could be the RAM or the video card, ask youe friends to loan you his RAM and check again if nothing happens put the old RAM back and change the video card if this dosen't work try replacing bouth adn see if it work's,if not it could be the power supply.

Forsecul actually read my post before replying, I stated I replaced everything in my computer minus the MB and chip. So its not my ram video card or power supply.

Exit2dos I dont see any conflicts.

This problem just started happening to me about 3 months ago it was only once and a while then it started getting worse. In that time i didnt change anything on the computer.

Now its to the point where I cant even finish connecting to my game before it locks up half the time and now it will always lock up within minutes. This is also A fresh reformat as of saturday night.

Ok, just because you put in a new part doesn't mean that its a good part. Bad stuff does get shipped, so it ends up being RMA'ed. Beyond that, unless I missed it, I didn't see a listing of the type/power of your psu. If the psu is underpowered, it could cause lockups.

And last, but not least, the motherboard itself can be causing the problem. Given that everything but the mobo and the cpu was replaced, the mobo could well have taken a trip south. Unless you've been overclocking or something, the cpu should be good.

Try running your RAM in the first and third slots, leaving the middle one empty.

Then, rather than just disabling, actually remove the X-Fi card and uninstall the background software and drivers.
If this works, then you'll either have to get analog speakers, or do without your microphone. If it does work, and you want to go with the X-FI, make sure you disable your onboard sound in the BIOS (not in Windows), as well as removing all the drivers & Soundmax software.

Hey man, I know i don't post much and thusly you may not want my advice as much. Beyond that point, I notice that the only old components are the Proc and MB. So lets take it from there first. If you can test out a THIRD set of ram, do so, and if its still freezing it's most likely the MB, as Procs so rarely and i mean RARELY go bad. I am proposing that the MB is at fault because i've seen MB's have either minor faults that prevent them from performing properly on a basic setup or faults that prevent them from being useable products that deserve recognition (My first MB was a SOYO that could be stopped from freezing just by tapping it very lightly). So without bashing me too much, focus on a bit of MB testing. Seriously man, I don't doubt your abilities to check the device manager for conflicts or your sense in reinstalling windows. Those were all GOOD steps to take, and now that you are pretty sure its not really a conflict or heat or many other components, you are only left with a few probable causes. TEST them suckers out! Im not experienced but keep coming back for all the good IT. Peace everyone :)

I agree with ISOD. Your mobo is most likely on it's way out. The telling thing for me is loss of communication with your keyboard/mouse. I can't remember ever fixing that type of problem on a normally stable system. The problem may be due to leaky capacitors, bad voltasge regulator, damage by power surge, etc. Have you looked at your chipset temps? Maybe some new heatsink compound.

Sorry sailer, Its a 500 watt termaltake power supply.

exit2dos Thats my current ram configuration, I have a board that requires it to be in those slots unless im using three sticks. Ill have to look at disabling my onboard sound in dos though, and ill try to remove the x-fi sound card and drivers, but creative drivers ar a real pain to delete.

ISOD im not sure as to testing the MB short of what ive already done this is my first computer I built im really surprised it lasted as long as it did :)

MCGTech Chipset temps are good mine is an old barton core rated at 85C its never gone above 75C. I actually performed a heat sink cleanup when I installed the new graphics card(had too much thermal compund on) Now its paper thin like everyone recommended to me.

Thanks for all the support people really. This was more of a sounding board to see if I had diagnosed my problem correctly, I was going to replace the mb anyway, but now it looks like I should be able to save my chip. I just didnt want to go into this lightly as ive already spent way too much on a obsolete computer :), but this thing needs to last me until I can get my socket A2 gaming rig built sometime early next year. You can bet ill be on here for tips on that :) otherwise though Im usually not a forum person. Thx again
