Double Recycler folders and unknown Sys-info folder ? - Ag..

Hi,

I took my USB HD to a friend's computer to make a backup. I use
Win2000Pro and he uses XP.

The USB HD has 3 partitions: F, G and H.

When I reconnected the HD to my computer I saw on all 3 partitions a
new folder called 'System Volume Information' that was not there
before. I figured it was some XP index thing of some kind and deleted
it from G and H but could not delete it from F.

While at my friends, I had also converted F to NTFS from FAT32. (G and
H are still FAT32)

Additionally, on F there is a second new folder called 'Recycler' but
which does not behave like the Recycle bin folder which is present on
all partitions.

See attached JPEG for a screenshot of the tree structure.

Do I need to keep these two new folders on F (due to having converted
to NTFS or something)? If not, how can I delete them? They don't
accept to be deleted normally or from CMD-prompt. Do I need to go into
safe mode.

Thanks.

You need to add permissions for your account in order to access (and
delete) the "System Volume Information" folder. This MS Knowledge Base
article might help:

This article explains more about the Recycler folder on NTFS partitions:

Hi thanks for your reply!

So if the 'Recycler' folder is the recycle bin on NTFS volumes, why is
the old 'Recycled' folder (from the partition's FAT32 days) still the
one holding trashed files waiting for deletion?

I don't like unnecessary folders and files. Which one, if any, can and
should I delete?

You shouldn't delete any of them. If you don't want to see the Recycler
folder, set Explorer not to show hidden files or folders.
