i'm organising to get adsl broadband, and i'm just wondering what the best set up for me is. should i go with a combie modem with router or not, i eventually want to have another pc, so that my good lady can use the internet when i need to use the pc for something else or so that we can both access at the same time for different things. i was thinking about the us robotics modem with router and inbuilt firwall. but not to sure of what to do or what kind of setup to go for. any advice, thanks.

Every time I learn something new it pushes some old stuff out of my head.

does your ISP give you a modem cheaply (or free)? If so, just use that and get a router.

I would just get the modem from the isp and buy a router on your own. If the modem dies or you upgrade you wont lose the router in the process.

I get by on a simple e-Tec ADSL PCI modem. In my opinion, modems with the Conexant chipset work fine and are pretty cheap too. I've tried cheaper types, but the chipsets on them seem more prone to problems, and if you can help it, steer clear of USB modems cos they tend to be more problematic and have incompatibilities.
