Hello. Planning to build a new rig but unfortunately I'm not quite up to speed with the recent developments in graphics card technology lately. The following are my questions:

1. Between the 2 choices below, which one is the better performer in terms of frame rate, 3D rendering capabilities, etc.

a) 512MB / 256-Bit DDR2 GPU
b) 256MB / 128-Bit DDR3 GPU

2. I know somebody probably asked this question before but will an ATI Crossfire-ready GPU work well with an Nvida-based motherboard like the Asus A8N-SLI?

3. Which is better?
a) Nvidia Geforce 7300GT PCI-E
b) ATI Radeon X1300 PCI-E

Thanks!

Theres a problem with this thinking. If the GPU is the same, the A option would be faster. Not only does it have twice as much ram, but its interface is faster also. The different type of DDR won't matter much. This doesn't mean that A would be a better card. If A has a weaker GPU then B, B could be faster.

Yes, as long as it has a PCIe 16x interface, it won't have any issues. The only problem is you won't be able to use SLI/CF.

Find out for yourself.

You didn't say what x1300, so I just picked one. I also didn't look at the results, but I believe the 7300GT would be faster.

Regarding the second problem, as far as I konw that nFocre 4 chipest has not supported CF yet , and the Intel latest chipest like P965 has supported both SLI and CF. :D

nForce chiopsets never did, and never will support CF, you can run CF on SLI mobos through hacks. No official support.

Thanks for the feedbacks. I guess I'll have to stick to the GF7300GT then, although I admit the newer ATIs will give this GPU a run for the money. Gotta stick to my budget since the Asus A8N-SLI is all I could afford. Will be using the rig for home-based Medical Transcription applications and maybe some PC gaming on the side - Flight Simulator 2004 and soon, the FSX.

If you're looking for a 7300GT, then this is the one to get:

Leadtek PX7300GT: $84

128MB, 128-bit GDDR3 @ 1.4GHz. It's essentially a 7600GT with half the VRAM, and 4 pixel pipes locked.

If you can spend a bit more ($114), then get this:

BFG Tech 7600GT OC: $114 after rebate
