The reason I am asking this is because I found an 80 gig SATA 3 Gb/s hard drive on newegg for $40. I found a 40 gig SATA 1.5 Gb/s for the same price...SO the motherboard I am getting says it supports SATA 1.5 Gb/s, can I use a 3 Gb/s Hard Drive? I would assume if you could it would only run at 1.5 gb/s wich is fine because It is still cheaper.

Check the specs on the drive. Probably the tech manual on the mfg's web site. My WD drives have a jumper to force them into SATA I (1.5) mode.

The disk will be backwards compatable. If you are worried about it, get the 1.5G disk.

It will work, but maybe you will need a jumper
