Does anyone know whether the port I need to forward to get tye Steam Beta going is the same as that for half-life? Ever since I fitted this router Half-Life continues to work but steam cannot find any internet servers within the game wherte as it can from windows. If I do need to forward some ports does anyone know what they are.
Umm, I tried those ports but im a bit confused as to where i need to forward them. In my Linksys Router there are two forwarding sections, one called UPnP which has In, OUT, UDP or TCP and the IP. And one just called port forwarding that has the port rand, TCP or UDP and the IP. Im not sure what to use. I also found out that you can only forward ports when DHCP is disabled on the router. I tried all of those ports and it didnt work. You must also remember that standard ahlf-life does work, its just the steam addition that doesnt.
Im also having problems with Radmin not being able to connect two computers connect to the output ports on the router. I guessed that the firewall would have nothing to do with this since im only connecting across the lan, not the net.
I have a feeling that the problem lies with the actual game and not the firewall since i tried connecting my modem directly to my comp (using Zone Alarm, the config that it always used to work with) and I got exactly the same results on RTCW and Steam (the two games that were suspect).
However Im still having problems with R Admin. Even if I connect two comps witha crossover cable whenever i try to connect to my ded server from my main PC it says 'Cannot connect to server'. Im using the ip adress displayed by r_server and the standard port 4899. Any suggestions??
O, sorry, I thought you would know. Its Remote Administrator, a program that lets you control a computer on a network. So say I had two comps Crossovered, I would type the ip address of one comp into the program on the other and I would seee the screen and be able to control the computer using the same controls/monitor. I would like to use it to set up my game server without another monitor (wasted socket) and sitting from one place.
My problem is that if i type in the ip address of a comp and set it to take over that comp it comes up with a message 'cannot connect to server'. I dont have any firewalls on either comp so im guessing the default port of 4899 should be open on both comps.
