i don't think i've seen a bigger single-day increase.
a week ago, i could get:
Corsair VS 1GBkit (2*512) PC 4200 for $135 (wholesale, inc-tax, $australian)
Corsair Twin2X 2GBkit (2*1GB) PC 5400 C4 for $265
and that's from Altech.com.au, one of the cheapest aussie wholesalers i know.
This morning i woke up, now it's:
Corsair VS 1GBkit $185
Corsair Twin2X 2GBkit $335
That's up 37% and 26% respectively. In One Friggin Night.
And it was across the board (at least, on Corsair, that's all they got besides OEM). Even some stupidities arose, now VS 1GBkit 4200 and VS 1GBkit 5300 are the same price, as are, actually, all Value Selects are the same price for 4200 and 5300 (for the same size stick).
I asked my contact there, he said that the factory just upped prices overnight, and they are simply passing it on. He also reckoned that every manufacturer will be doing the same pretty soon. So just as a warning to everyone else, if you're considering upgrading your RAM, do it now, if you can find a place that hasn't passed on the price increase yet.
Thankfully, i scored some from nintek.com.au (good place, like australia's version of newegg, but cheap and easy to use site) for $140 and $300 respectively (more expensive, but retail, and now cheaper than wholesale, so all you poor guys without companies can order from there too).
In the US, prices have been slowly rising in recent weeks. I picked up 2x1GB Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 For USD 177 after rebate a few weeks ago; it's now up to USD 215 after rebate.
Just waiting a bit longer to see if I can sell my 2-month-old DDR2-675CL4 on eBay for a profit.
Makes me glad I bought my TwinX 2 gig DDR2-800 a month ago for about 150 after a rebate Supply must be tight after AMD price drops and Intel's new chip release.
Man, that altech site or whatever it was are rip offs. Go to this site and compare prices with the one that you linked. Check out the price differences.
Yeah, that's coz you're seeing the RRP on that site. Nobody listens to RRP anymore.
I get the dealer prices, which are about $5 less than the same thing on gamedude, i just checked for CPUs, mobos, HDDs.
but for the big stuff, like this (just a random example), i can get it for $1235, not $1499
and gamedude have the VS2GB 4200 & 5300 both for $300, just got the 5300 from nintek.com.au for $280, and up until a few days ago it would have been $260 from altech, wholesale (now it's $350, only because they put their prices up immediately)
But my point's the same, everyone's gonna put their stuff up pretty soon. If you were planning to upgrade soon, grab whatever you can from gamedude, or nintek, or wherever your favourite online shop is, they'll be putting it up soon too (because the factory just did), guaranteed.
We have been informed that all back orders in Australia for the Corsair Ram have been delayed slightly by Corsair to our supplier which unfortunately means all our back orders.
...
I have included some links to various products underneath and if you would like to change you order to any of them, please advise us, alternatively you can opt to wait for the Corsair Ram to arrive.
Translation:
We just realised that we sold you RAM for less than we can buy it for. Please swap to something else, or we're out of pocket.
ps, at nintek.com.au, Twin2x-2048-5400C4 2*1GB are now $399 glad i got my order in at $299 when i did, they selling 2*512MB for that much now. (gamedude.com.au got 2gb twin2x 5400C4 for $330)
This is going to be interesting to see how high it goes in a few weeks...
