Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can advise, as I am unsure.
I have a short run of single mode fibre (~90 meters) between a couple
of buildings and have some switches that have 1000BaseSX SFP adapters
in them.
Am I correct in believing that with 1000BaseSX it has to be multimode
fiber? What are the chances of this working with the single mode fiber
as it is quite a short run?

Yes.

Slim to none. 10 meters might make it.
LX gbics are pretty cheap - they are under $100 if you look hard enough.
Go buy a pair off e-bay and slap them in your device.
