Looking to buy a new CPU!

I havent been around for 6 months, i just returned from army training. Im looking to buy a CPU around $300 bucks, $400 if really needed to. Im a gamer, i play cs source, fear, hl2, hitman, d3, mmo's i pretty much play everything. Im more of a AMD fan but i been looken around and looks like INTEL took the hot spot for the dual core but i still dont know what to look into getten please help! The cpu i have now is a AMD 2800+ XP so im hurten

Get a completely new rig, lean towards a Core 2 Duo.

With that money you can buy a core 2 duo but you´ll also need a new motherboard and DDR2 RAM so plan accordingly.
The cheapest core 2 duo you can get is a 6300.
