I just built my first computer. (I've owned computers for years, but this is the first one I've built.0

I've got an ASUS P5W DH motherboard with an Intel E6600, 2 gigabytes of PC6400 RAM, a Seagate 300 GB SATA2 hard drive and a BFG 7900GTX video card.

I've overclocked the CPU from 2.4 to 2.7 ghz and the memory from PC6400 up to PC7100.

Out of curiosity I downloaded 3DMark06, (the free version), and ran it on the computer.

It came up with a 3DMark06 score of 6407. Somehow I thought it might do better than that.

Is there something obviously wrong, or is that score in line for the computer I've built?

Nothing is wrong. Every year, 3Dmark gets more demanding. Your score is quite good actually. If you want a comparison, try running 3DMark05. You'll probably score around 11,000 there.

That's a pretty good score. Run 3DM05; if you score 10k+, then your rig is fine.

i think your score is good but you can use the free version and compare your score to scores of systems like yours.i cant remember exact way right now but you can set it up to compare setups like what you have and see range of scores

My best so far was a 5422, so yes you're doing fine. Specs are below, and my CPU was @ 2750MHz. Of course, I wasn't using a GTX... maybe a volt mod is in order.

In my opinion that does seem to be a tad low... My specs are in my siggy here and I score over 7000 on my system with no overclocking and a fully loaded pooched install of Winblows(I thought of benchmarking a little late). I'm sure that on a clean install of Winblows I would score between 7300 and 7500. I woulda thought that your system would atleast be higher then mine given the cpu and graphics setup... this show the power of AMD and SLI... or just a fluke?

Hi Guys,

I ran PCMark and 3DMark on my PC last night. I was using the free version. As I am not using the pay service (just not worth it for one run at $40 if you dont use it professionally), I cannot check to see how my system stacks up against others. I hit Google and the forumz, and got some data points. If those points prove true, then I think I am going to be very disappointed with the new system. Could you please take a look at my scores and let me know what you think? Please post yours too so others coming to this page can learn too. THANKS!

PCMark = 6493
3DMark = 4936

I don't know but I do think that score is a little low. I have the E6600 (stock), 7950 GX2, 2 Gigs of Corsair 5400 RAM, and I ran 3d mark06 (free version) and got a score of 8219.

What surprised me were the CPU tests. The two tests that ran never got above 1 FPS. What's up with that? :roll:

I also think it's pretty low. What diagnostics can I run. How do I start to fix this problem?

I would not worry too much as 3dmark06 is very hardware intensive.Try running 05 version and see where it leaves you.

The most common problem (IMHO) people have with running these benchmarks is leaving junk open in the background.

With a 6800LE, a socket 754 AMD 64 3000+, and 1.5GB of RAM I got 1898 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=269296 in 06 and 4567 in 05 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1984641

Make sure you've stopped your anti-virus, your IM programs, Firefox, maybe even Explorer. It makes a huge difference.

i think that you can go to website after your run of 3d mark and save your project (free but i think you register or something) then when you do that you can save a few scores there and compare to others and you set parameters to compare cpu,graphics card ,etc

Those sound right to me, at least they are about what i am getting:

3dMark06: 6103 @3.0GHZ
3dMark05: 11537 @2.4Ghz

Hi wstcoaster07. You've got the exact same rig! Great, now I have someone to compare my benchies with. I'm going to try the overdrive funtion on the card tonight (someone earlier recommended that), and then may even look into OCing the CPU. Was it difficult to get it to 3 Ghz?

about as difficult as opening a door. Just read Wusy's guide.

I just followed his steps and increased the FSB to 333 to get 3Ghz (along with disabling the things he said). My problem is that my memory will not run at the rated timings and speed so I am running crappy timings (RMAing it in the next few days). I would like to run it at 400MHz but its best to do a 1:1 (so 667 cause i dont want the FSB at 400 with a 9X multiplier) like he mentions in the guide. Until the P5W DH can change the multiplier we are stuck at 9X for now.

What are you overclocking your vid card with and to what speeds?
