I was under the impression that NTFS volumes were not restricted by the 255
character [path + file name] length limit. However, in Windows Server 2003,
it seems that this may not be the case when copying files from a mapped drive.

I am attempting to copy files from an XP Pro laptop (where, by the way, I
was able to easily save these same files from a USB drive) to a Windows
Server 2003 drive for backup purposes.

I can locate the files on the XP laptop (mapped to the server) using Windows
Explorer. However, when I attempt to copy those same files to the local drive
on the server, I receive the following error:
________________________________________________________________

Cannot copy <filename>: The file name you specified is not valid or too
long. Specify a different file name.

After looking at the Microsoft support site, I could not find any particular
article that seemed relevant to this very specific issue.

Any advice? Thanks in advance for your help.
