woot.com had the 7900GS as a "Woot Item Launch" (They sell them before they are "officially" released) for $139.99. Too bad I wasn't up till midnight that night and they were sold out by the time I woke up in the morning.

sadly, AGP has gone the way of dinosaur...don't expect to see anymore cards put out for AGP, the 7300gs was the last one.

On another note, while the 7900gs looks attractive, i'm holding my breath for the 7950gt...i was moments away from purchasing a 7900gt but thought, 'no, i better check toms' and thank goodness i did, now i will wait to see what the 7950gt offers and if they drop the price on the 7900gt.

It would be a price-performance king only below $180 price point.

Falls pretty short of 7900 GT performance, which can be bought for $219 (XFX 470MHz ... which is easily overclocked to 530MHz).

The GS is missing 4 pixel pipes and 1 vertex pipe. GS is selling for between $199 and $229 today on NewEgg. At Buy.com, you can get a 450MHz GS for $179 after rebate.

These GPU makers have got to stop competing at the every-$20-price-point levels. Both ATI and nVidia now have plenty of reference boards which compete against ... their own products for a swing of $10 here and there. It's silly.

Yeah but it was basically on par with the x1900 Gt and thats what NV was aiming for. IMO the price will drop, its just a little high right now because of being just released. Or i could be wrong and its a complete waste of money... you make the decision.

7900gs = overclock 7800gt.

Slightly wrong there. It is produced on a smaller process and has 1 extra vertex shader i think.

Nope, 7800gt has 20 pipes and 7 shaders, same as the 7900gs, but yes, it does use a 90nm core instead of the 110nm 7800gt

Yeah i wasn't too sure about the vertex shader thing, thanks for correcting me!

:)

Looking at Newegg the cheapest 7900gt (without MIR) is 262$, and the cheapest 7900gs is 199$. Considering the 7900gs, at worsed, is 15% slower than the 7900gt, but it costs about 25% less. So the 7900gs is a better buy in terms of price/performance.

I am in the same boat, but guess what... I just ordered most of the stuff I needed to complete my build an E6300, 160gb HD, some cables, and yes the BFG 7900gs. My 6600gt was great when I got her last year, but now I need something new.

I'm buying mine by the end of this month, and, honestly, I can't wait. :!:

Upgrading from a 6600GT... This is going to be sweeeeet. 8)

Hell, it won't be as big as the upgrade was from my fx5500 to my 7900gt. That jump was totally astonishing!!! Had to re-play all my old games just to see what they could look like with Full detail settings and AA and AF.

You really should love this jump :D:D:D

I checked out the VGA charts and it seems that the x1800xt is a little better than the x1900gt, depending on the bench. The x1900gt is better than the x1900aiw.
