need some tune up help. I just got my ASUS P5B-Deluxe mobo, an Intel Core Duo 6700, 4 Patriot 1 Giga Ram DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) 4-4-4-12, and a MSI Geforce 7900 GT Pciex video card. Mounted all that with a 600W power supply and 2 WD 74 Raptor HD. It is working fine. The problem is that I use to have an AMD X2 4800 that was almost twice as fast as this new computer. On Windows XP Pro I run Photoshop CS2 and do some filters that took me 31 sec on the AMD 4800. On the new E6700 it is taking 50 sec! I tried some tweaks on the BIOS, but with little success. I upgrade BIOS, downloaded new drivers, and no sucess. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance.
Also not sure what kind of plugin's the project is using, so I'll only be taking a stab in the dark. Might want to check the preferences in photoshop.
* see if you can allocate more memory
* put the cache drive on a fast performance drive
* defrag the drive
* if there's open GL features, might want to try switching them on and off
* Patch up to 9.0.2
Thank you very much for your answer, but I think the problem relies on the memory configuration, or some tweak on the BIOS. I’ve done all your suggestions that, buy the way, are very good, but no improvement.
Do you know how could I change the FSB:RAM ratio from 2:3 to 1:1?
There's some great info that can help squeeze out more performance out of the machine. If you wish to run a safe setup, try a 3.2Ghz config. This can be done by setting the FSB to 320.
If you're still getting the same delays on the conroe system, I'm inclined to suspect the adobe photoshop isn't optimised yet for the hardware.
According to CPU-Z, my processor is running at 3550 Mhz and FSB 1420 Mhz. Memory 4/4/4/8 with FSBRAM 4:5. It is very stable. At 3600 Mhz when I tried my heavy Photoshop CS2 filter, sometimes it crashed. The only difference I see, is that when I turn the computer on, the power supply starts, and after one second turns it self of, then after 2 seconds, turn on again and starts to work. Is that normal? Is there any room to squeeze out something else? Again, thank you all.
