I just finished building my new PC and I am having some trouble installing XP SP2 on it. It gives me an error code
0x800703e7
Error Performing inpage op
and later in the setup it says several DLL files are missing or corrupt.
Originally I just ignored the problem and carried on like usual. But after a little while I noticed some things were terribly wrong. XP was extremely slow and would lock up. Games like Quake 4 and UT2004 wouldn't run. I couldn't even install drivers without having to cut and paste files into directories for the drivers to use.
After some web research I found out that it is most likely either a corrupted sector of the HD or a RAM problem. Rather than RMA both parts, is there any way I can determine which of the two might be the problem? I already ran a chkdsk /r earlier today on the HD and it didn't say there was any major problems, but I also read that the chkdsk may not always detect corrupted sectors.
Since I can't seem to run anything in XP I don't know if the system will even be stable long enough to load a memory testing program. If anyone has any help/advice on what I can do to figure this out I would really appreciate it.
Here are my specs
E6600
DFI Infinity 975X/G
GeForce 7600GT
Antec Truepower 550W
Here are the two (potentially) offending pieces of hardware
Western Digital 160 GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136009
Kingston 2GB PC2 5300 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820134046
