We just put in an XP client that has a share directory called "bdtest" and
inside of that there is a directory called "datadir". It contains about
6,700 folders. These folders together contain about 42000 files and about
25GB in size. The Xp machine replaced a Windows 98 machine. When we access
the "datadir" folder from a Windows 2000 client, it will take anywhere from
40 seconds to several minutes or hang when trying to list the folders. I
have tried checking this directory from several different 2000 machines and
get the same result. From a 98 or XP client the delay to list the folders is
from 3 to 10 seconds. Listing the contents of the bdtest driectory itself
comes up really quick on all three systems(98, 2000, and XP), but there is
only seven folders under it. The Windows 2000 systems have the latest
service pack and the XP client is at Service Pack 2. I disabled Symantec
Anti-Virus on the 2000 client with no luck.
I have applied kB829700 to the 2000 with no luck either. Any Help would
be appreciated. Thanks,
Mike
